Styles of Dance

 
 
Tap
Uses the dancers feet to not only dance but to also produce sound. This style of dance teaches students the importance of musicality. In this class proper tap technique, producing of clear sounds, rhythm, and timing will all be focused on.
 
 
 
Jazz
Jazz dancing often uses bold, dramatic body movements, including body isolations and contractions. In this class students will learn how to move to music in style as well as proper technique for leaps, kicks and tuns.
 
 
 
Ballet
Ballet tells a story through the dancers graceful and precise movements. It teaches proper posture and self discipline. Each class will include barre exercises, and a combination of centre floor work and across-the-floor combinations. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology.
 
 
 
Acro
Acro is a style of dance that incorporates both acrobatic movement and dance as one. Students will learn flexibility, strength and proper execution of acrobatic tricks in a safe and encouraging environment. Proper safety matts will be provided for each class.
 
 
 
Lyrical/Contemporary
A style of dance which combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. Students will also explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music to tell a story with movement.
 
 
 
Hip Hop
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.
